5 winter delicacies to keep you warm
With the cold weather setting in, the body's need for warm comfort food increases. No wonder we crave for hot cuppas and deep fried pakoras. Although most of us love to indulge in good food during the season, what about having something that will actually keep you warm? Try out these amazing recipes that are not just delicious but will also keep you warm in winters because of the ingredients used.
Masala Chai: It tops our list because the spices used in it up the body's resistance against winter infections. Boil one cup milk and one cup water. Add 1/4 tsp ginger paste and a pinch each of clove, black cardamom, black pepper and cinnamon powder. When the water-milk mixture is reduced to half, remove from fire and serve with a dash of honey.
Hot Chocolate: Boil 2 cups of milk. Add 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder, 2 tsp coco powder and sugar to taste. When it is reduced to half, serve with whippe cream and Marshmallows.
Methi Pakora: Methi is considered naturally warm and so why not make yummy pakoras using it? Finely chop a handful methi leaves. Add 1/2 cup gram flour, 1 tsp carom seeds, 1/2 tsp onion seeds, salt to taste, water to make a tight batter, cumin and red chilly powder to taste. In a heavy bottomed pan heat some oil and deep fry spoonfuls of the mixture.
Jaggery Sesame Laddu: Both jaggery and sesame are considered warm. Dry roast one cup sesame and keep aside. In a vessel add one cup jaggery and melt. When it becomes slightly thick, add the sesame and mix well. Make into laddus when the mixture is warm.
Chicken Soup: It has been scientifically proven that chicken soup can actually fight cold. In a pot add 2 tsp butter. Add one chopped onion, 1 tsp chopped garlic, 1 grated carrot, 1/2 cup shredded chicken, 1/2 tsp pepper powder, salt to taste, 1 tsp grated ginger, 1/2 cup chopped mustrooms. Saute for 5 minutes. Now add 1 cup water and one cup milk and cook till the vegetables and chicken are cooked.
